SURGEON FOR SOUTH ASIA

Crunch time is quickly approaching.

Our 66-bed hospital in South Asia is an acute care medical-surgical hospital that provides care in pediatrics, family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics, gynecology, general surgery and orthopedics.   We serve an immediate local population of approximately 1.5 million (30 mile radius).  Dr. Steve Kelley is our sole general surgeon but he is also intimately involved in the development of the Renewal Project, a project to replace our hospital’s aging and inadequate structures for a new building.   We hope to break ground on this construction project in Spring 2012.

THE NEED:

January 7 – February 7, 2012

A  fifth year resident from Mayo Clinic general surgery residency program will be at the hospital for a month.   However Steve Kelley needs to be free to work on final engineering plans for the new construction project.   A board certified surgeon is needed to both oversee general surgery cases and to preceptor this resident.

Summer 2012 to fall 2013

Steve Kelley and family will begin an already overdue furlough in the summer of 2012 .   Surgeons are greatly needed to cover this 12-15 month time frame. The alternative is for the hospital to stop providing general surgery care during that time, an action we would rather not implement.

We have a second full-time general surgeon in the pipeline. Dr. Nathan Piovesan hopes to arrive in country in the summer 2012 However, he will begin an 18-24 month language learning program at that time to prepare him for long-term ministry with these beautiful people.

Please pray how you, or another Christian surgeon whom you know, may be able to assist the ministry at Memorial Christian Hospital.
